The main difference between a regular MRI and cardiac MRI is – Heart MRI specifically looks after the heart and nearby blood vessels, but a regular MRI can be performed on any part of the body. Both Cardiac MRI and Regular MRI don’t use ionizing radiation. Both are safe methods to rule out abnormalities.

It is a medical imaging technique. It used magnetic fields and computers to generate radio waves. The prime motive of regular MRI is to look into the organs and tissues of the body. Well, In most cases these MRI machines are large systems with a tube-shaped magnet.  MRIs are generally used to create cross-sectional images.

Regular MRI can be used to look into the brain, spinal cord, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, ovaries, prostate, pancreas, etc. MRI of bones and joints, as well as the breasts, is useful for looking for any kind of abnormalities.

Whereas Cardiac MRI can be used to detect acute coronary syndrome. It is helpful in making a diagnosis of the suddenly reduced blood supply to the heart. Determining artery blockages – Quite accurate in detecting blockages in larger sections of the body. It is also used in detecting abnormal blood flow.

The process of both heart MRI and regular MRI is the same. It mainly depends on which area of the human body is examined. If it’s the breast, the MRI will create a 3D, detailed picture of the breast. In cardiac MRI – the working of blood vessels and the heart is seen. Honestly, An MRI machine may look intimidating to some of them. The machine is like a bench that slides down into a large tube attached to a doughnut-shaped opening.

In both regular and heart MRIs you are supposed to remove your jewelry, watches, metals and be completely safe.

You will be asked to lie down gently and given a pillow. The machine will make loud noises, and it will take pictures of the part being examined. Many diagnostic centers provide you with earplugs.

The entire process can take anywhere around 20-60 minutes.

Some risks associated with MRI scans – These systems have a strong magnetic field. It can easily move iron-containing objects with great force. There are some of the potential risks that are associated with MRI – The contrast agent sometimes can cause kidney problems, as your kidneys are responsible for removing the dye from the body. If you have any tattoos or permanent makeup, ask if they might affect your MRI scan. Most of the time, these tattoos can contain metal.

Once the test is done, it may take a while to get the results. Preliminary results from the MRI are usually available early. If they are available, then the doctor will review them and discuss any following steps needed.

There is strong evidence that cardiac MRI is excellent in solving complex cases. It provides detailed images with high resolution. It can be very accurate. Not only that, but it is very safe. Furthermore, it also gives good information about the severity of any condition.
